Ron Howell - Owner

I have been blessed to be a licensed guide and outfitter in Idaho for over 25 years. My specialty for many years has been steelhead on the main stem of theSalmon river out of Riggins ID. I have a Coast Guard Masters license for jetboats on Hells Canyon and the Salmon river and a wilderness rivers license in Alaska. I have guided 9 seasons in Alaska on the Good news river. My guiding career has taken me to Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Florida, Belize andCrooked Island Bahamas.

I am a certified casting instructor with the FFF and very much enjoy casting and teaching with a spey rod. The last seven years I have dedicated myself to learning the McCall area lakes and reservoirs. My attraction to this area is the beauty of the country and the absence of fishing pressure. I have heard it said that God does not subtract from our lives time spent fishing…If that is true I shall live to be very, very, very old….

Mike Schlegel is our llama guy. He and his llamas are very popular with our customers. Mike is a retired wildlife biologist and has lived in McCall for the past 22 years. Mike grew up in western Oregon. He attended Oregon State university where he received his Bachelors and masters degree in wildlife management. In 1970 Mike accepted a position with Idaho Department of Fish and Game. During his 26 year tenure with the department he worked as a conservation officer, research biologist and regional wildlife manager.

Since retirement Mike has worked for Idaho helicopters and Hawkins power Aviation in their animal capture program. Mike has been an avid outdoorsman since his youth. Flyfish McCall has been blessed by Mikes enthusiasm for high lake Fly fishing.

Ed Allen arrived in the McCall , Idaho area in the spring of 1968 as a Smokejumper for the US Forest Service. He fell in love with the area and has never left, except to complete his college degree in Lewiston, Idaho and for a short transfer to South Carolina in 1990-92 with the Forest Service. Most of his career placed him in the mountains he loves. Many of those years were spent in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Through those years Ed has hunted , Fished, hiked, skied and played in this incredible paradise.

To Ed , the most important part is the beauty of being here. A few years ago Ed traded in the larger horse and mule pack animals for a few much smaller and more environmentally sensitive Pack Goats. These are the near perfect hiking partners and camp mates. They willing go wherever you want to go, require no leads, will not run away and can find food wherever you decide to stop for the evening. They are great for day hikes as they carry whatever you and your friends need for the day, and free up the two legged hikers of cumbersom packs. You can take a real lunch and adequate fishing gear to enjoy your experience while at the lakes.
